The PS5 cloud streaming will get a staggered rollout, with it being launched in Japan on October 17, Europe on October 23, and North America on October 30.
Sony is launching cloud streaming for the PS5 console, later this month. The feature will be available to PS Plus Premium — highest-tier — members only. The gamming users can stream selected popular games from the games catalog like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, and more, without having to download or own them. They will be adding many more games to the release in due course. Sony had confirmed the addition and testing of their cloud streaming service in June. This is part of their bigger plans to solidify it’s PlayStation Portal for handheld devices.
PS5 cloud streaming has already started in Japan (October 17) and Europe (October 23) with North American launching today October 30th. The select games that would be available for streaming will be offered in 4 different high quality resolution like 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K, all with 60 fps and SDR or HDR output. Users can pick any resolution but their quality will ultimately depend on their internet connection/speed. Sony recommends at least 15mbps for 1080p streaming and above 38mbps for 4K.
Technically, Sony’s cloud streaming was made available when the refreshed PS Plus was launched last year, though it was limited to PS4, and the Classics Catalog containing PS2 and PS3 games. Sony suggested that streaming games might be available on other devices too. All the cloud streaming features will be packaged with the existing benefits of a PS Plus Premium subscription, which includes Game Trials (timed demos) for new titles, an assortment of free games every month, exclusive discounts, and access to online multiplayer and cloud storage.
In August, Sony raised the prices for its 12-month-long PS Plus plans which caused many fans to express outrage and cancel their subscription. Sony is hoping that the PS5 cloud streaming works for the business. Sony claims the feature is already out in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.
